Meetings are held at 2:00 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month, except December and January. Please note that renovations to the downtown library has forced our meetings to be held at other locations. Regular meeting are open to the public and consist of announcements and a program.

Program: Basics of an Autosomal DNA Test and How to Use the Results 

This talk is going to be an uncomplicated in depth look at DNA and how an Autosomal DNA test works and then how to use the results of an Ancestry DNA test. 

Speaker: Don Hengen

Don Hengen was born and grew up in Omaha, Nebraska.  Because of job transfers, he has lived in 7 different places around the Midwest, arriving in Toledo in 1988.  He began doing genealogy in 1989, having gotten the bug from his youngest sister who had researched the family across Nebraska and back to Indiana where they settled after immigration. 

Location: Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek, 2001 Perrysburg-Holland Road, Holland, OH.  Use the entrance controlled by the traffic light.  Enter the building through the Forest View entrance, turn left to the Chapel.  Meeting is at 2:00 p.m.

Program: United States Daughters of the War of 1812; Who We Are & How to Apply for Membership

Sandy will give a brief explanation of the War of 1812 and the lineage society.  Then she will talk about applying to the local chapters. 

Speaker: Sandy McPherson 

Sandy says “Genealogy was not presented to me as a hobby; it was a family requirement.”  She goes on to say that there are over 150 years of genealogists in my father’s family.  “Fortunately, I learned to love it and have over 65 years of my own experience.”  Sandy has served as a trustee and newsletter editor of the Lucas County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society.  She is also a member of the Ohio Genealogical Society, the Clermont Chapter OGS, the National Genealogical Society, and the Waterville Historical Society.  She has been an official blogger for the NGS conference, and an ambassador blogger for the Federation of Genealogical Society conference.  She is the administrator of three Facebook pages and the founder and owner of a blog titled The Frugal Genealogist.  In addition, she belongs to several lineage societies.  She loves to share her knowledge of genealogy research with others and she truly enjoys helping people discover their roots.
